The Picture of Success

Well, here we are at another Monday, another clean slate. What are you going to do with it? Are you going to fill it with the things that bring success or the things that bring failure?

I choose success, and I want you to come along with me. For the next few weeks I am going to thoroughly explore some thought patterns that I need to develop in my life in order to be successful at weight loss. I hope you’ll make the trip with me.

When it comes to weight loss, do you have the self-image of success? I don’t. I have hundreds of little (mostly negative) nuances concerning my skills and abilities to achieve and maintain successful weight loss; most of which came from the feedback of others. You do, too. If you grew up with a weight loss problem, like I did, the feedback from that time helped to create a poor self-image. That image has further been damaged by the many diet failures and failed exercise programs. This all adds up to the wrong kind of self-image to create success. Because of this poor opinion of ourselves, we then tend to make decisions supporting this negative self-image rather than decisions supporting our success.

So I am setting out to change all of this. My first task, and hopefully yours, to being successful is to see myself as a success with my weight loss. I plan to do this in a couple of ways. I have had great success so far in using affirmations in my weight loss. I have used such things as “I will do whatever it takes” and “Nothing will stop me from achieving all of my weight loss goals”.

While these are great and I will keep using them. I don’t think they are enough. I think that I need something a little extra, something that makes me see myself in a POSITIVE light in my weight loss journey.

So I am going to spend some time this week developing these winning beliefs and affirmations:

 – I imagine how my successes will make me feel

– I enjoy imagining a bright future for myself

 – My images of success are getting clearer now

– I hold the images of success in my mind for long periods

 – I enjoy taking the steps to make my images come true

What I will achieve as a result of growing to see myself in this positive light, is that I will become a person who would never do anything against this strong image of myself that I now hold. It’s who I am after all.

The second activity is that I’m going to spend a lot of time this week visualizing myself as a success in weight loss. I’m going to find actual pictures, and make a poster with those pictures. I am going to become emotionally attached to making these goals a reality. I’m going to experience how this feels, what this looks like, and how much I am going to enjoy getting there. I hope you’ll come along with me. Next week will be Step 2.

By the way, a little accountability update, I completed my second week of P90X and am still going strong. WooHoo!

Great post! Affirmations are something I think everyone should do. I did a post not too long ago about Laws of Attraction. We are what we think!

Thanks for your thoughts, Karla. It’s great to meet you. And I agree with you, we are what we think! Talk to you soon.

  2. Hi Deb,

What an important step in achieving your goal – recognizing self limiting beliefs and adopting a positive mindset. I’ll share this post with others and mention it to Larry (most of his coaching / hypnosis counseling focuses on this VERY step).

Good luck – I’ll keep supporting you and your success!!
