Well, here we are at another Monday, another clean slate. What are you going to do with it? Are you going to fill it with the things that bring success or the things that bring failure?
I choose success, and I want you to come along with me. For the next few weeks I am going to thoroughly explore some thought patterns that I need to develop in my life in order to be successful at weight loss. I hope you’ll make the trip with me.
When it comes to weight loss, do you have the self-image of success? I don’t. I have hundreds of little (mostly negative) nuances concerning my skills and abilities to achieve and maintain successful weight loss; most of which came from the feedback of others. You do, too. If you grew up with a weight loss problem, like I did, the feedback from that time helped to create a poor self-image. That image has further been damaged by the many diet failures and failed exercise programs. This all adds up to the wrong kind of self-image to create success. Because of this poor opinion of ourselves, we then tend to make decisions supporting this negative self-image rather than decisions supporting our success.
So I am setting out to change all of this. My first task, and hopefully yours, to being successful is to see myself as a success with my weight loss. I plan to do this in a couple of ways. I have had great success so far in using affirmations in my weight loss. I have used such things as “I will do whatever it takes” and “Nothing will stop me from achieving all of my weight loss goals”.
While these are great and I will keep using them. I don’t think they are enough. I think that I need something a little extra, something that makes me see myself in a POSITIVE light in my weight loss journey.
So I am going to spend some time this week developing these winning beliefs and affirmations:
– I imagine how my successes will make me feel
– I enjoy imagining a bright future for myself
– My images of success are getting clearer now
– I hold the images of success in my mind for long periods
– I enjoy taking the steps to make my images come true
What I will achieve as a result of growing to see myself in this positive light, is that I will become a person who would never do anything against this strong image of myself that I now hold. It’s who I am after all.
The second activity is that I’m going to spend a lot of time this week visualizing myself as a success in weight loss. I’m going to find actual pictures, and make a poster with those pictures. I am going to become emotionally attached to making these goals a reality. I’m going to experience how this feels, what this looks like, and how much I am going to enjoy getting there. I hope you’ll come along with me. Next week will be Step 2.
By the way, a little accountability update, I completed my second week of P90X and am still going strong. WooHoo!
Debbie, I commend you for this post. The wife and I have need of this timely advice. Here’s to our combined success.
Thanks, Nelson. I am glad you found the post useful. Now get to work applying it.
Thanks for stopping by.
Lynn,
Sounds like you’re moving forward towards your goal. Thanks for sharing your journey and thoughts with us,
Val
Hi Val,
Yes, this time I am. I am laying the groundwork for success. Thanks for stopping by.
Yes! The intensity of your vision is what measures your perseverance and your ability to take action in the face of adversity!
You will rise victorious with this approach!
Hi Paul,
Thanks so much for your encouraging words. Your post on vision, helped me refocus. Have a great day!
Debbie,
In the affirmation process, I’ve found that stating it “as though” is most helpful, i.e., “I weigh X.” “I drive a red Honda S2000.” “I am a Star Diamond Coach.”
You have a winning attitude and you are well on your way. Thanks for letting me be a tiny part of the journey!
Hi Darlene,
You should change that Honda to a Harley, girl! Thanks so much for your support. It means more than you’ll ever know. Talk to you soon.
Dearest Debbie,
I am so moved by what you are saying here that I am having a really hard time getting words down on paper. This is so powerful and has really touched me deeply.
Nancy
Hey Nancy,
I feel such a connection with you. You are such an awesome person! I can’t tell you how much it means to me that my words have touched you. Thanks so much for your support.
Bring On step 2! How awesome. I want to put those affirmations on note-cards. Great stuff!
Hey Debbie,
Great job! I am with you and will journey with you along the way. You can do it! Keep that picture of success clear in your mind.
Make it a great day!
God Bless,
-ed
Sounds like a great plan. I think I’ll make some affirmations along with you. Now is the time and I embrace my healthy weight now!
Keep the great posts coming!
Hi Debbie,
I’m glad you are going to make some affirmations. I like the one you shared with me. I would love to hear how things are going.
So glad to hear you have changed your attitude. I am doing P90X too and it has made such a difference in my self esteem and discipline. Discipline not only in my fitness but in all areas of life. I wish you much success on your journey!
Hi Angela,
That is so awesome that you are doing P90X. I’m glad to hear about your success. We’ll have to compare notes again soon!
Deb…very good! This reminds me a lot of a post my son Spencer just did recently. Having the right mindset is so very important…it can hardly be overstated. I love your openness, honesty and clarity Deb. I always look forward to visiting your blog every week. Many, many blessings to you.
